Diamond company to pay for role in DRC

    JOHANNESBURG

    Zimbabwe's participation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will be partly paid for by the proceeds from the Oryx Diamond company, 'The Zimbabwe Independent' said.

    According to the report, Zimbabwe is guaranteed 40 percent of the profits in the US $1 billion diamond mining venture. "Zimbabwe has already paid for its shareholding in the project through the deployment of troops in the DRC and the protection the troops are offering to the project and the government of Laurent Kabila," the newspaper quoted a government source as saying.
