Belligerent countries react "cautiously" to meeting

Meanwhile, other belligerents with troops fighting Kabila expressed cautious optimism about the meeting. Ugandan Minister in the Presidency Ruhakana Rugunda told IRIN his country welcomed the meeting between Kagame and Kabila "so long as it is not against the Lusaka agreement".

"Any meeting aimed at promoting peace in the region and, in particular, democracy in the DRC, and not opposed to Lusaka is welcome," the minister said.

Vice-Chairman of the Rwandan backed RCD-Goma Jean-Pierre Ondekane told IRIN that the Kenyan summit though good, did not cover all the problems facing Congo and the Great Lakes region. "As long as the Lusaka agreement is not fully implemented especially the national dialogue component, there
will never be peace in the DRC and the region, but our Rwandan brothers will brief us about the summit so that we can put it in perspective," said Ondekane.
