Cholera kills 14 in southwest

At least 14 people have died and a further 100 have been hospitalised following an outbreak of cholera in the southwestern state of Ondo, ‘The Guardian’, a Nigerian daily, reported on Friday. The worst-hit areas were Ayetoro and coastal communities in the Ilaje area. The newspaper quoted local residents as saying the outbreak was “not unconnected” with recent ethnic clashes between the Ijaw and Ilaje communities, which made many people trek 50 km in search of drinking water.
