Francois Lumumba, the son of murdered Congolese independence leader Patrice Lumumba and leader of the opposition Congolese National Movement is on hunger strike after his arrest in Kinshasa last weekend, according to human rights organisations in the DRC capital. Reuters quoted a member of his party as saying Lumumba decided to begin a hunger strike because he
had not yet been informed of the reasons for his arrest. According to the news agency, Lumumba was on Monday transferred into the custody of the national security agency, ANR, and has been denied visitors since then.
