Clinton's special envoy in the region

Howard Wolpe, the US special envoy to the Great lakes region, and John Prendergast, the special adviser to the State Department, are on a regional tour to drum up support for the full implementation of the Lusaka agreement. Diplomatic sources told IRIN that the two envoys have already met President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa and Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe and were scheduled to meet Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos. From
southern Africa, the envoys will travel to Kinshasa, Kampala and Kigali for consultations. The visit coincides with other diplomatic initiatives in the region, including a UN Security Council mission led by Richard Holbrooke, the US ambassador to the United Nations.
