Village reportedly torched by RCD, rights group says

The main human rights group in the DRC, ASADHO, has expressed deep concern over what it says is an increase in RCD attacks against the civilian population in eastern DRC. In a statement, ASADHO said the attacks were usually in retaliation for Mayi-Mayi incursions. It noted an incident on 16 April in which it said RCD soldiers had torched the village of Izege, near Walungu, to try and flush out Mayi-Mayi fighters who attacked an RCD camp at Mulume Munene. ASADHO quoted villagers as saying the soldiers first ordered them out of their houses, although five who refused were allegedly killed.
