RCD says Kinshasa unacceptable venue for talks

The rebel Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie (RCD-Goma) has condemned the DRC government's rejection of proposals for a national dialogue put forward by the mediator, former Botswanan president Ketumile Masire. In a statement, received by IRIN on Wednesday, the RCD said the government of President Laurent-Desire Kabila was again trying to scupper the Lusaka peace process. The RCD said it could not accept Kabila's demand
that an inter-Congolese dialogue should take place in Kinshasa and called instead for holding the talks at a neutral venue. Recent arrests of opposition figures in Kinshasa were not reassuring for prospective participants in a national dialogue, the statement added.
