Wamba denies fleeing Bunia

Leader of the Bunia-based rebel Rassemblement congolais pour la
democratie-Mouvement de liberation (RCD-ML), Ernest Wamba dia Wamba, has denied fleeing his base. In comments broadcast from Kampala by Bunia radio on Friday, he said he had gone to Uganda at the invitation of President Yoweri Museveni. "It is precisely to advance our struggle that we have to make frequent travels," he said. "Some officials in our movement took advantage of the fact that we were away to mislead you with all sorts of
irresponsible rumours and create a crisis that would allow them to achieve their ambitions," he told his followers in Bunia. "We are happy that in spite of all these provocations, you have remained calm." Earlier this month, the independent Ugandan 'Monitor' daily said Wamba had been ousted
by officials of the movement and had fled to Uganda.
