Meanwhile, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has summoned the leadership of the Ugandan-backed RCD-ML to Kampala to discuss the divisions within that rebel faction, the semi- official 'New Vision' reported on Friday. It said Museveni had already met the rebel leader Professor Wamba dia Wamba. "I would not be surprised if the meeting took place, but such matters are
handled by Minister [for Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation], Amama Mbabazi," the press secretary to President Museveni told IRIN on Friday. "President Museveni wants unification within the group - and unity of all Congolese rebel groups. He knows that intrigue cannot take us very far. I
never fled Congo. I came here for a meeting and I will not allow intrigue in the organisation. We have people who are resisting accountability and refusing to reconcile with others," the 'New Vision' quoted Wamba as saying.
Other officials of the RCD-ML were expected in Kampala on Friday, but it was not clear whether Mbusa Nyamwisa - the 'Speaker' of the rebel movement, said to be behind an attempted ouster of Wamba - would attend the Kampala meeting, having called a general assembly of the RCD-ML in the
DRC on Saturday. "I have called the assembly in my capacity as the RCD Speaker, and it will take place on Saturday. I am yet to get an invitation [to meet Museveni in Kampala] but if it comes I will adjust my schedule. We have problems in the movement but we must face them head on. You will hear the results," Nyamwisa told IRIN from Beni in eastern DRC. Meanwhile, a former member of Mobutu's Zairean army, General Iluki, was set to take
command of and reorganise the RCD-ML for Wamba, independent sources said on Friday.
