Cholera claims 93 lives

Cholera and other forms of acute diarrhoea have claimed 93 lives in the Mozambican capital, Maputo since February, PANA reported on Monday. Quoting the city's health director, Olivia Ferreira, it said over this period, 5,749 cases of cholera and acute diarrhoea have been reported in the city. Ferreira said that most of the deaths could have been avoided, if those affected had sought medical help immediately. "People only go to the health units when they are already in a serious condition," said Ferreira, who added that it is difficult to help the sick when the disease is at an advanced state.
