Presidents Thabo Mbeki of South Africa and Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe are not planning to discuss the current crisis in Zimbabwe during the Group of 77 Summit in Cuba, a South African official was quoted as saying on Wednesday.
"The Zimbabwean question will not be discussed between President Mugabe and President Mbeki, not yet," said Essop Pahad a minister within the president's office. "Obviously we are neighbours. We don't have to come thousands and thousands of miles across the ocean to meet here," he added.
Pahad did, however, indicate that other issues such as the peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) would be raised. "I think one of the issues that may well be discussed is the issue of the Congo and what steps may be necessary to take to try and bring about a situation of relative tranquilly and stability in the country," he said.
