Events in Zimbabwe affects tourism

Events in Zimbabwe in recent weeks have adversely affected Zambia's tourism industry, media reports said on Tuesday.

"Many of the tourists to Livingstone come through Victoria Falls, which unfortunately is aggressively advertised as a Zimabwean destination," Agnes Seenka, chief executive of the Zambia National Tourist Board was quoted as saying.

"We will experience low business because of the political and economic uncertainty in Zimbabwe, where many of our visitors spill over from. Already we have reports that visitors have been significantly reduced," Seenka said.

An estimated 456,000 tourists visited the country last year, earning the country about US $80 million.
