Chadian troops occupied in March two potentially oil-rich islands
claimed by Nigeria in Lake Chad, AFP reported the Nigerian newspaper 'National Concord' as saying.
The report quoted local fishermen as saying the Chadians hoisted their national flag on Tetewa and Changole, two of
17 islands island claimed by Nigeria. Officials in Nigeria's northeast Borno State confirmed the occupation, AFP reported the newspaper as saying.
Nigeria and Chad fought for control of the islands in1983,
although on that occasion local residents were won over by promises by Chad to provide drinking water, fishing boats, electricity and medical supplies, the report said.
