Refinery resumes operations

    ABIDJAN

    Congo's national oil refinery in the southern port city of Pointe-Noire has resumed its operations after nearly four years of inactivity, the Panafrican News Agency (PANA) reported last week. The company had stopped its activities in 1997 due to serious technical and financial difficulties, forcing the oil-producing country to import refined products. The re-opening of the refinery was a welcome relief to Congolese consumers who had experienced frequent fuel shortages, especially in Brazzaville, PANA said, but it added that the restoration of rail traffic
    between Pointe-Noire and the capital was needed to fully resolve the fuel supply problems.
