Libya to supply oil, petroleum

The Libyan government is to start supplying crude oil and other petroleum products to Zambia, as soon as an export mechanism is worked out, media reports said on Thursday.

Libyan charge d'Affaires in Lusaka Abubakas Saleh said: "The Libyan government has received a letter from the Zambian government accepting to obtain crude oil from Libya. It's just a matter of time before the export arrangements are worked out."

Zambia's Energy Minister David Saviye said his government is eager to seal the deal so as to cut its fuel import bills. Zambia has had to import petroleum products at great cost since the Indeni oil refinery was gutted by fire last May.
