SADC condemns coup in Cote d'Ivoire

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has condemned the military coup in Cote d'Ivoire and called for the immediate restoration of democracy. Speaking in its capacity as the current chair of SADC, the Mozambican government said that the coup was a "blow" to the consolidation of democracy on the continent and a "threat to peace, security and stability in Africa". Mozambique added that the coup was in violation of the OAU resolutions on anti-constitutional changes in member countries agreed at the Algiers summit in July this year.
