ExxonMobil subsidiary announces oil, gas find

The Nigerian subsidiary of the US oil group ExxonMobil Corp. has made an oil and gas discovery in off-shore oil block Erha-1, 165 km southeast of Lagos, news reports said. Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited said on Monday that test drillings encountered an oil-bearing reservoir that flowed at 2,800 barrels per day, AFP reported. This is the second commercial oil discovery in deep waters off Nigeria, the sixth largest oil exporter in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Most of Nigeria's oil is produced on-shore or in shallow waters close to land.
