Unemployment at 35 percent

The unemployment situation in Namibia currently stands at 35 percent, or 547,000 people, the deputy labour minister was quoted as saying on Wednesday. The minister reportedly said over 216,000 youths currently enter the job market each year to compete for only 4,000 new employment opportunities that arise per annum. He added that the country's labour force grows at an average of 4.2 percent a year, while formal employment growth is less than 2.3 percent annually.
