Malawi has launched a new plan to combat AIDS/HIV, media reports said on Monday. According to the reports it will give the virus "national importance", and will be funded by the UN Development Programme (UNDP). Katawa Msowoya was quoted as saying the programme was designed to "break the silence about AIDS, by letting people talk about it." An estimated
14 percent of Malawi's population are HIV positive.
