A Malawi supreme court judge says that some of the country's laws are "too harsh" and outdated, according to news reports on Wednesday.
Justice Leonard Unyolo, chairman of the Criminal Justice arm of the state-run Law Commission, which is currently reviewing the laws of Malawi, has said that some of the laws "are not consistent with democratic dispensations."
"There is an urgent need to reform many of our laws. Many of them are outdated and contradictory while some are draconian and discriminatory," he added.
