Border jumpers deported

Authorities in Botswana have deported about 6,000 Zimbabwean immigrants who crossed the border illegally during the first six months of this year, news reports said. Castin Nyamutamba, officer in charge of police at the Western border town of Plumtree was quoted as saying: "Border jumping has become a serious perennial problem and most people who are netted say they cross into Botswana to look for jobs." Unemployment levels in Zimbabwe, according to media reports, are hovering around the 50 percent mark. Most Zimbabweans go to neighbouring South Africa and Botswana, whilst others go as far as Britain from where several cases of deportation have been reported.
