Nyerere to mediate in election dispute

Former Tanzanian President, Julius Nyerere is to chair meetings in October aimed at mending the rift between the government and opposition parties which was sparked by the 15 June elections, media reports said on Thursday. According to the news reports, opposition parties are claiming that they were "robbed of victory" in the elections. Violence erupted in northern Malawi shortly after the final election results, which showed that Bakili Muluzi had been re-elected as president.
