Trial of Americans resumes in Harare

A trial involving three American nationals on arms charges resumed in Zimbabwe on Thursday, media reports said. According to news reports one of the men told the High Court in Harare that he was "a missionary, not a mercenary" as alleged by the government. He added that the weapons were for self protection for their work in the Democratic Republic of Congo. On Wednesday the Supreme Court ruled that the government should pay the men's legal costs because they had been ill-treated in detention. The three Americans were arrested in March as they were attempting to leave Zimbabwe.
