Pope says Angolan conflict threatens entire region

Pope John Paul II has described the Angolan conflict as one of the worst humanitarian crises in Africa and warned that it threatened to engulf the entire region, media reports said on Monday. "Ever more worrying news reaches us from Angola where, because of civil war, one of the most serious humanitarian crises is developing in silence and with no respect for human dignity," the pope said. The pope said Angolan bishops had voiced their concerns about the plight of thousands of Angolans.
