Growing crime hurts business prospects

Increased crime is forcing Zambian businesses to add an estimated 20 percent to their costs, media reports said on Monday. The Zambian Association of Chambers of Commerce was quoted as saying that insecurity in the country had increased costs for most industries, especially those that there were trying to attract foreign investors. "There is a state of war between the law enforcement officers on the one hand and syndicates of armed crime on the other," the government appointed human rights commission was quoted as saying.
