Numbers of jobless growing

    JOHANNESBURG

    A draft report of the Presidential Commission on Education, Culture and Training has revealed that by the year 2010 Namibia would have produced more than 200,000 secondary school leavers who will not find "gainful employment", according to government report on Friday.

    The report said every year about 3,000 of Namibia's 10,000 to 12,000 Grade 12 school leavers do not find employment or a place for further study. "Many young Namibian men and women need to be assisted to find work in the informal sector through the creation of thousands of new small enterprises," the draft report said.

    The draft report further said preliminary projections for the year 2010 indicate that Namibia will have too many financial, legal, commercial and administrative professionals, particularly in the fields of social sciences, arts and communications as well as agriculturalists, environmentalists and teachers.

    At the same, it added, the country will have a shortage of science graduates, medical doctors and related professionals such as engineers, technicians, nurses, health workers and artisans.
