American embassy closed

    JOHANNESBURG
    The United States embassy in Maputo has been closed, following threats made to its security, the Associated Press (AP) reported on Tuesday. "In the interest of protecting American citizens and foreign nationals who work for the US government, we think it is prudent to temporarily close all our facilities in Maputo to prevent injuries or loss of life," a statement released by the embassy was quoted as saying. Last month the US State Department shut down six embassies in Africa because of security concerns.
