ADB loans for The Gambia, Ghana, Cameroon

The African Development Fund (ADF) approved loans on Wednesday for The Gambia, Ghana and Cameroon, the African Development Bank (ADB) - which includes the ADF - reported. The Gambia will receive some US $770,730 to finance a livestock development study that aims to "identify and prepare two priority bankable projects in the livestock subsector", the ADB said. Ghana's Agricultural Development Bank will receive a loan of some US $20.03 million to help the government mobilise resources needed to finance agricultural investment so as to attain sustainable food security and reduce poverty. The loan will provide credit facilities for small and medium-scale farmers and fishermen to increase production. According to the ADB, it is to help an estimated 104,272 persons to produce cotton lint and seed, cashew nuts, cereals, legumes, pineapples and fish. Roughly US $10.01 million will finance a primary education project which aims to "address the standard and enrolment capacity of primary education in Cameroon". The project includes the training of Education Department staff in strategic planning and management, the building and rehabilitation of 556 classrooms and the supply of 9,000 health education and 9,000 environmental education manuals to all schools in the country, the ADB said.
