Fall in competitiveness

South Africa has dropped by five places on the latest global competitiveness report published by the World Economic Forum. According to the report the country scored low on key indicators such as crime, unemployment and the effectiveness of the public sector. The police force was found to be the most ineffective among the countries surveyed, with police being unable to safeguard the personal safety of citizens. South Africa was ranked bottom on the list in relation to labour regulations, and its unemployment rate was the third highest among those countries surveyed.
