Teachers angry over directive

Botswana's teachers are petitioning the country's president Festus Mogae to reverse a directive issued by the Department of Public Service and Management which recommends higher salaries for teachers with "scarce" skills such as engineering and science-based subjects. "The directive will lead to insubordination because it will be difficult for some senior teachers to supervise newly-qualified teachers with "scarce" skills who will earn higher salaries than them when their entered the service," the teachers argued in the petition.
