First independent radio station licensed

    JOHANNESBURG
    The first independent radio station in Botswana has been granted a licence to broadcast, the SAPA news agency reported on Tuesday. According to SAPA, this move has broken a 33-year government monopoly on broadcasting in the country. The new radio station, Yarona FM, is expected to go on air within four months. SAPA reported that a second licence application, which is being sought by a group of investors from South Africa and Botswana, was still pending.
