Muluzi considers election postponement

President Bakili Muluzi told a delegation of religious leaders that he might summon parliament to consider shifting the scheduled 25 May general elections to 8 June, PANA reported on Friday. The Reverend Father Piergiorgio Gamba, who was part of the delegation, said the religious leaders told Muluzi it was unrealistic to go ahead with the polls and expect a free and fair vote in view of the chaotic registration exercise. "The president was responsive," Gamba said.
