More than 100 people were killed by RCD rebels in the Kamituga area of South Kivu province on 5 March, the missionary news service MISNA said on Saturday. It said the massacre was in reprisal for an attack by Mayi-Mayi militia on a convoy heading to Kitutu from Kamituga. MISNA also said that 78 people, including seven women and two children, were killed during military operations at Lukweti, Rutshuru and Biholo between 28 February and 1 March.
Meanwhile, a convoy of 10 vehicles on the Goma-Rutshuru route in North Kivu was attacked by unidentified armed men on 24 February, WFP said in its latest weekly emergency report. The report said 47 people were killed and several others wounded. One of the trucks used by WFP to carry food was burned during the attack. Food shipments through this route will be suspended, WFP said, adding that it was closely monitoring the situation.
