The Right to Stay (version 2)
Wednesday, January 8, 2014 IRIN / Charlotte CansIn the Mukuru slum, one of the biggest in Nairobi, a group of residents have decided to go to court to demand the right to the land on which they live and the end of forced evictions. Kenya adopted a new Constitution in 2010 which protects the right to housing and sanitation. The case may have far-reaching implications in a city where 60% of the population live in slums. IRIN's latest Film "The Right to Stay - Fighting slum evictions in Kenya" portrays the struggle of the Mukuru residents and inspirational community leader Jack Evans Omondi Papa.
