Here are our republishing guidelines. Any article that is available to be republished will have a button on the page itself.

Guidelines

The New Humanitarian reports from the heart of conflicts and disasters, on stories few other outlets do. We’re thrilled when our work can reach new audiences. So go ahead, steal our stuff. Most articles are free to republish under a Creative Commons licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). We only ask a few things.

You must include:

  • the author’s byline at the top, as well as credit to any reporting partners, editors, photographers, illustrators etc.
  • a link to the original story on our site at the top of the piece with this tagline: “This story was originally published by The New Humanitarian.”
  • a short explainer of who we are at the bottom of the piece: “The New Humanitarian puts quality, independent journalism at the service of the millions of people affected by humanitarian crises around the world. Find out more at www.thenewhumanitarian.org.”

  • If you’d like to also use our logo, here it is.
  • You may write your own headline, cut for length and make changes to adhere to your house style in terms of spelling, formatting and punctuation, as long as the integrity of the story is maintained. You may not rewrite, add to the story or reorder paragraphs. If you want to make other changes, reach out to us for permission at [email protected]
  • You may translate into other languages. You must include the following disclaimer at the bottom of a translated article: “The New Humanitarian is not responsible for the accuracy of the translation.”
  • Clearly identify opinion pieces as such.
  • Please – and this is important – keep the tracking pixel code we’ve included. It allows us to see how far the story is travelling and what impact our journalism is having.
  • If you’re unable to use the tracking pixel or want to republish us in print, please email  [email protected] with the title of the article and details of your publication. We’ll get back to you promptly.
  • If you use canonical metadata, please use The New Humanitarian URL. For more information about canonical metadata, click here.
  • You may not publish our journalism behind a paywall.
  • You may not reshare or resell our work to a third-party, represent it as yours, use it for commercial or fundraising purposes, or submit it for awards. You may not actively submit it to third-party platforms, apps and curations, though we understand it may be automatically scraped.
  • Work under a Creative Commons licence will show a “republish this article” link. That’s most of our stories from 2023 onward. If there is no republishing link, you may not use that story. Please use the html we provide; do not scrape or copy-paste articles.
  • When you click “republish this article” you get an html version of the full text and all related media to which we have rights. If you don’t see an image download link, it’s because we’re not licensed to share it. Please do not grab multimedia off the page.

To republish stories from before 2023 or if you have any other questions, reach out to us at [email protected]. We’d appreciate it if you tag us on social media when you share the story. We’re @newhumanitarian.
