Chiluba completes cabinet line-up

    Zambian President Frederick Chiluba named eight new cabinet ministers on Wednesday, completing a list he first announced on Sunday, news report said. Chiluba named veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga as information and broadcasting minister, Levison Mumba as health minister, Yusuf Badat as trade and industry minister, Jane Chikwakwa as community development minister and Bothwell Nyangu as environment minister. Others were Abel Chambeshi as lands minister, Joaquim Mwape as transport and communications minister and Peter Chintala as sports, youth and child development minister. In a story in the independent ‘Post’ newspaper after the appointment of the first batch of ministers, Chiluba rejected accusations that his new cabinet was weak. “They are saying graduates have left (the) cabinet, but they are many remaining. Our cabinet is not mediocre like they are saying. This is a group that can deliver,” Chiluba was quoted as saying. The announcement brought to 24 the number of ministers Chiluba has appointed since he dissolved his cabinet last week. On Sunday, he appointed 16 new ministers, installing businessman Enock Kavindele as vice-president.
