UNAMA's new priorities will be reflected in its extended mandate which is to be approved by the UN Security Council in March 2008. Ferishta Dunya/UNAMA
The UN Security Council has extended the mandate of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) until March 2010.

Resolution 1868 tasks UNAMA with playing a “central and impartial role” in coordinating civilian aid efforts, enhancing peace and stability, and supporting the upcoming presidential elections. UNAMA was established on 22 March 2002 and has 18 field offices and some 1,500 staff in the country.
