Possible report of legislative elections

The president of Chad’s Commission electorale nationale independente(CENI), Yokabdjim Mandigui, has recommended the postponement of legislative elections due in March 2001, AFP reported. In a letter to Prime Minister Nagoum Yamassoum, Mandigui cited the lack of financial aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and from Chad’s treasury department as the main constraints to holding the elections, AFP reported. The commission’s recommendation has been supported by an opposition party, l’Union nationale pour le renouveau democratique (UNDR).
