Camdessus praises Burkina Faso

Arriving in Ouagadougou on Friday from Nigeria, Camdessus told a news conference he was very satisfied with the four-year Structural Adjustment Programme that Burkina Faso started in 1996. In addition, he said, the country’s privatisation programme was good, while it had managed “to reduce unproductive spending and increase social spending”. Burkina Faso registered 6.2-percent growth in 1998, compared to 5.5 percent the previous year.
