Clashes in Casamance claim seven lives

At least seven people have been killed in renewed fighting between the military and separatist rebels in Casamance, southern Senegal, news organisations reported. The BBC said the clashes broke out on Saturday after members of the rebel Mouvement des Forces democratiques de Casamance (MFDC) began clearing farmers from an area. The farmers were said to have been passing information to the military about rebel activities. A senior military official said that five rebels and two soldiers had been killed in the fighting, BBC reported.
