ICRC completes agricultural programme

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society have completed a major agricultural programme launched in April to help war-affected civilians grow their own food, the ICRC said in a news release on Thursday. Some 172,000 displaced people and vulnerable resident farmers received seed-rice, groundnuts, vegetable seed and hoes, it said. In total 30,765 families in the central district of Tonkolili, Kenema in the east, and Pujehun in the south benefited from the assistance while 200 families living along the Moa River in the south received freshwater fishing equipment, the ICRC said.
