MLC complains to MONUC over attacks

The rebel Mouvement de liberation du Congo (MLC) said its forces were attacked by government troops last week at Imesse on the Ubangi river in Equateur province. The attacking forces were said to have used heavy artillery fired from six boats. Other areas also reportedly came under attack by DRC government troops and its allies, according to an MLC statement. The movement’s leader Jean-Pierre Bemba complained to the UN mission in DRC, MONUC, and warned that his troops would not “remain inactive” if President Laurent-Desire Kabila’s forces did not return to the defensive positions stipulated in the 8 April Kampala disengagement agreement, signed by the belligerent sides.
