President Laurent-Desire Kabila’s personal security chief, Eddy Kapend, has been arrested and is being held in the special services’ prison, AFP reported, citing the Kinshasa daily ‘Le Phare’. It gave no further details of Kapend’s arrest, but added that a former intelligence agency official, Emile Kanangele, was also being detained at the same institution. Kanangele - a former DRC charge d’affaires in Belgium - was suspended as general administrator of the national intelligence agency two months ago, AFP said.
