Border ruling to be delivered in closed session

The independent Boundary Commission in The Hague has confirmed it will deliver its crucial ruling on the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea on Saturday 13 April. According to a press release from the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, the decision will be delivered at a session attended by all members of the Boundary Commission. "As agreed by the two governments, and provided in the Commission's Rules of Procedure, the Commission's sessions are not open to the public, and there will therefore be no press facilities available," the statement said. "The two governments have indicated their intention to make their own arrangements for communicating with the press following delivery of the decision." The text of the decision will be available on the website of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (http://www.pca-cpa.org) as of Monday 15 April, the statement added. It said that immediately after delivering the decision, the Commission would proceed with arrangements for demarcation of the boundary. The five-member commission was established in accordance with the provisions of the Algiers peace accord of December 2000, signed by the two countries after a bitter two-year border war.
