Controversy over strike call

The Basotho National Party (BNP) has called for a national stay-away next week in a bid to press the government to agree to early elections, the ‘Public Eye’ news service reported on Thursday. It quoted Foreign Minister Tom Thabane as saying the proposed stay-away by Major-General Metsing Lekhanya, president of BNP, was “not serious” because the country’s Interim Political Authority (IPA), which includes the BNP, was still holding talks “to pave the way forward”. In a statement calling for the strike from Monday to Friday, the BNP said the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as the arbitrators, should intervene to help lead the country to fresh elections.
