Anti-Wamba group protests to Museveni

A delegation of elders from Bunia, northeastern DRC, is in the Ugandan capital Kampala to meet President Yoweri Museveni and protest against a decision to send Ugandan troops to their area, the semi-official ‘New Vision’ reported on Friday. The troops were reportedly sent in to quell divisions in the governing Rassemblement congolais pour la democratie-Mouvement de liberation (RCD-ML), led by Ernest Wamba dia Wamba. “Some Ugandan officials have failed to realise that Wamba is not a good leader and want to impose him on us,” an RCD-ML official opposed to Wamba told IRIN. “That is why some of our people have decided to go to the bush and get him out. It is not only the Wahema [ethnic group] who are against Wamba, it is a cross-section of tribes that are against his work methods.” Meanwhile, diplomatic sources told IRIN that Mbusa Nyamwisa and Atenyi Tibasima of the RCD-ML, who are said to be against Wamba, have been summoned to Kampala for consultations. Wamba has accused some senior officials in his movement of promoting a rebellion to block accountability measures put in place by his administration. “When you have people who are not interested in running an organisation in a transparent manner you get such problems, but we shall contain the situation,” he told IRIN. For its part, the Ugandan army said the rebels were starting to leave the bush.
