Chiluba says he is committed to peace efforts

Zambian President Frederick Chiluba on Sunday pledged to continue efforts to complete the ceasefire peace process in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) despite President Laurent Desire Kabila’s failure to attend the Southern African Development Community (SADC) summit in Namibia at the weekend, news reports said. Chiluba said SADC would continue exerting pressure for a cease-fire in the DRC. He said it would also continue arranging meetings with Kabila to convince him about the importance of sticking to the Lusaka Peace Agreement. Chiluba added that the SADC meeting in Namibia would review the DRC conflict and decide on measures to get the dialogue moving.
