Six killed in border raid

Six people were killed and 10 others seriously injured in three separate banditry attacks on Ajuran settlements in Wajir district in Kenya’s Northeastern province. The raids came in the wake of a peace pact signed at the weekend by Ajuran and Gare clansmen during a provincial leaders’ conference held in Wajir town, local news organisations said. The ‘Daily Nation’ quoted Wajir district commissioner Fred Mutsami as confirming the incidents and saying that the attackers fled with more than 100 heads of cattle. He said the raiders, all armed with sophisticated weapons, passed through Ethiopia’s Gadama area before launching their raids. They also torched several houses. He lamented that the district security committee did not have the machinery to implement the resolutions of the leaders’ reconciliation conference that brought together the two feuding clans last Saturday.
