Local Polls Postponed

Logistical problems have forced Malawi to postpone local government elections scheduled for September, PANA news agency reported on Thursday quoting a spokesman of the Malawi Electoral Commission. The spokesman, Fergus Lipenga, said that the commission lacked adequate cameras to complete voters’ registration. He said that unlike in the general elections, where there were only 193 constituencies, more cameras were required to cater for a bigger electorate in 859 wards, where additional youths had joined the electorate after turning 18. No new date for the local elections was announced.
