Education sector receives US $3 million from Britain

Rwanda's Kigali Institute of Education for distance learning has received US $3 million from Britain's Department for International Development, the school's rector, Innocent Byuma, has said. The Rwanda News Agency (RNA) quoted him as saying that the money would enable the institute to train 500 teachers over three years and to buy five vehicles. Rwanda's minister of education, Romain Murenzi, said that the government had placed much emphasis on education, as a way to reduce poverty in the nation of some 6.6 million people, RNA reported.
